I am not playing in a competition but with a friend. Can this score be used to calculate my handicap?
Yes. When you arrive at the Qantas Golf Club affiliated club, you must tell the Pro Shop before you commence play that you are playing a social round and want your score to be included in your handicap history (it is at the discretion of the golf club to process your score card). Your card must be correctly marked by an existing handicap holder (GOLF Link member). At the end of the round, hand your card into the club and they will update your handicap history. It may take a few days for your handicap to be updated.
If the Pro Shop refers you back to your Home Club to administer your score, then send an email to email@example.com with a scan of your scorecard attached and the following details in the email body:
- date of play
- the name of the golf course where the round was played
- the color of the tees played from e.g. Men's White, Ladies Red
Your GOLF Link record will be updated with your scores, and your official handicap will continue to change as your scores are entered into your GOLF Link record by the courses at which you play or your home club.
I am playing in a competition. How will my score be reflected in my handicap?
To play in a competition at a club you need to provide your GOLFLink number. The scorecard you are given should have your GOLFLink number printed on it. At the conclusion of the round, make sure your card is marked correctly and hand it in to the club. The club will enter your score into the GOLFLink system and your handicap will be updated. You can check your handicap history via your Qantas Golf Club profile. It may take a few days for your handicap to be updated.
How do I activate my handicap if I have never had a handicap before?
If you have never had a handicap, you can obtain one by following the steps below:
- You need to play three 18-hole rounds, six 9-hole rounds or a combination of 18-hole and 9-hole rounds to complete a total of 54 holes so that your official handicap can be calculated. IMPORTANT: Before you book, contact the Pro Shop to nominate your handicap round.
- Each handicap round must be played with a golfer who has a current handicap and who is able to sign your scorecard as proof of your score.
- At the end of each handicap round, give the Pro Shop your completed scorecard so that your score can be entered into the GOLF Link system. If the Pro Shop refers you back to Qantas Golf Club to administer your score, email a copy of your scorecard to firstname.lastname@example.org with the following details:
- date of play
- the name of the golf course where the handicap round was played
- the colour of the tee markers used (e.g. Men's - White, Ladies - Red)
- Your GOLF Link record will be updated with your scores and an official Golf Australia handicap will be calculated once 54 holes have been completed and the scores have been lodged. Congratulations, you now have an official Golf Australia handicap!
- Your official handicap will continue to change as your scores are entered into your GOLF Link record by the courses at which you play. To check the progress of your handicap click here and add your GOLF Link number.
Until you have completed 54 holes and received your official Golf Australia handicap, you will be given a Temporary Daily Handicap of 45 for women and 36 for men. Please note that if you enter a club competition using the Temporary Daily Handicap, you will not be eligible to win a prize. The Temporary Daily Handicap is intended to be a guide to determine when you should pick your ball up during play, until your official handicap is determined.
